Hitting the road with your camper is a lot of fun, but sometimes trips don’t go to plan. There can be unforeseen problems with something as small as forgetting your inflatable pool toys, or as serious as a major natural disaster. It’s important to prepare for the worst. With that said, you need to make sure that you collect the proper safety equipment to have in your RV in case of an emergency.

Consider some of these important safety additions for your RV!

Fire Extinguisher

Most RV owners make fires each time they go camping, and yet they rarely pay any mind to their fire extinguishers. Fire extinguishers can often sit in cupboards for years at a time, without anyone checking or servicing them. But depending on the size of your RV, you should have multiple fire extinguishers that are tested and ready to use, should anything happen at a moment's notice.

Class B fire extinguishers work great against flammable liquid fires, while Class C specialize in taking out electrical fires, so it’s best to have at least one of each. Keep your fire extinguishers somewhere reachable in case you need to make a quick retreat. Putting them close to the door will help keep them at arm’s reach, in the case that your campfire or grill gets out of control.

Blackout Equipment

A big draw of camping for many people is getting off the grid and living independently. But what happens if the power goes out? When a blackout comes, you will want to have emergency items on hand such as a radio, a flashlight, and a lot of spare batteries.

If possible, try to find a radio that can be cranked by hand to supply power. Some models even feature charging cords for your cell phone, which can then be used to get emergency assistance in case of no power.

Tire Pressure Monitoring Kit

When you’re on your way to or from camp, a single tire blowout can create a huge problem and lead to a wreck. To prevent any serious harm or damage, invest in a tire pressure monitoring kit to keep an eye on your tire pressure and temperature.

These systems can help you maintain the correct tire pressure for your RV, as well as alert you to any sudden changes in pressure or temperature. This will help you avoid a blowout before it has the chance to happen.
