A Brief History of Jayco® RVs

For decades, one of the leading Indiana RV manufacturers has been Jayco®. Jayco® RVs are seen on campgrounds around the country for a reason: they’re well-built and thoughtfully designed with the features that you need to have a comfortable and safe journey, wherever you choose to travel.
 

Founding

Back in the 1960s, Lloyd Jay Bontrager founded Jayco® in Middlebury, Indiana. He used a blue jay as the company’s mascot, taking the name itself from his own middle name. Bontrager was raised Amish and he brought his work ethic and his values to his new enterprise, hiring many local Mennonite and Amish workers in the surrounding areas to build his trailers.

In the 1970s, Jayco increased its production by building factories in Kansas and Canada, which were temporarily closed during the energy crisis and reopened in the 1980s. Unfortunately, Bontrager himself died in a plane crash in 1985, but his wife Bertha and the new company president Al Yoder, Jr., took over the operation of Jayco.
 

What to Expect

Jayco® campers come with lots of different features that make them ideal for all types of travelers. Their fifth wheels were the first models to allow people to be able to stand up in the bedrooms, with higher ceiling clearances and more space. The company’s Jayco Climate Shield helps to make these campers comfortable in all weather conditions, so you can take them anywhere during any time of the year and have a relaxing trip without worrying about whether you’ll be too hot or cold.
